Dear friends/Estimados amigos:

As we do each year, we write to share news about our work during 2005 and to wish that all of you find happiness in your personal, family and professional lives. We hope that as the year comes to an end you find time for enjoyment and rest together with your families, friends and colleagues. The Comité Fronterizo de Obrer@s continues to be grateful for the opportunity we have had to cross paths, colloborate, or share in solidarity with you at times throughout our lives. We are happy to have done so and we hope to meet you again at some moment in the future. We wish all the best to you in the upcoming holidays and the new year.

Como cada año, aquí estamos compartiendo con ustedes todos nuestros acontecimientos en el año 2005, esperamos que todas y todos se encuentren bien, en lo personal, familiar y profesional. Esperamos que ahora que termina el año tengan tiempos gratos y de descanso al lado de sus familias, amig@s y colegas. El Comité Fronterizo de Obreras sigue agradeciendo la oportunidad de haber colaborado, coincidido o compartido con ustedes en algunos momentos de la vida. Nos sentimos contentos de haberlo hecho y esperamos encontrarles en algún momento en el futuro, siempre deseándoles mucho éxito en las próximas fiestas de navidad y año nuevo.

We hope that you will welcome our Annual Report 2005, and that you will read it to learn how we continue to carry forward our struggles in the various border cities where we are present. This year we had diverse learning opportunities in subjects such as union organizing, labor law, and non-violent conflict resolution, and we held a first-time meeting of Mexican attorneys who support the work of the CFO. As a result of these workshops, workers and organizers are better equipped to continue multiplying their organizing efforts, and to make real changes in their workplace, families and communities.

Esperamos que nuestro Reporte Anual 2005 sea acogido y leído por ustedes para que conozcan como seguimos avanzando en nuestras diferentes luchas en las ciudades fronterizas donde tenemos presencia. Este año tuvimos diferentes capacitaciones, en organización sindical, derecho laboral y resolución no violenta de conflictos, y por primera vez tuvimos una reunión con abogados que apoyan el trabajo del CFO. Lo que han arrojado estos talleres son trabajadores y organizadores más capacitados para seguir multiplicando sus esfuerzos organizativos, y para hacer cambios sustantivos en los lugares de trabajo, en sus familias y comunidades.

We continue to strengthen the Dignity & Justice Maquiladora Company in Piedras Negras. The compañeras started by making canvas tote bags, but are now also making tee-shirts of organic cotton. The number of participants continues to grow, and they no longer fit the small shop that housed them initially. For that reason we have rented a more convenient space that is shared by both the CFO office and the maquiladora. This permits us to save in expenses, and to strengthen one another by being close together.

Seguimos fortaleciendo la Maquiladora Dignidad y Justicia en Piedras Negras. Las compañeras empezaron haciendo bolsas de manta orgánica, pero ahora ya están haciendo camisetas. El grupo de socias sigue creciendo y ya no cabían en el pequeño taller que tenían inicialmente. Por eso ahora hemos rentado un espacio mucho más conveniente donde estamos junt@s la oficina y la maquiladora. Esto nos permite tener ahorrar algunos gastos, y también estar más cerca y fortalecernos unas a otras.

Now we are preparing for the close of the year 2005, and getting ready for our annual meeting in which we evaluate and plan for the coming 2006 year. We are happy that our compañeros Juan Pablo and Rafaela are alive and doing better. They were the most severely ones injured in a car accident we suffered returning from last year's annual meeting. They continue to collaborate and coming to visit the organization, and are very grateful for all the friends who expressed concern for their recovery and for all the persons and organizations who so generously contributed to cover the costs of their medical care and hospitalization.

Estamos ahora preparando nuestro cierre de año 2005 y preparándonos para nuestra reunión anual donde podamos evaluar y planear el siguiente año, 2006. Con la alegría de tener con vida y salud a nuestros compañeros Juan Pablo y Rafaela que fueron los más afectados en el accidente que tuvimos el año pasado, regresando de la reunión anual precisamente. Ellos siguen colaborando y visitando la organización, y están agradecidos con todos l@s compañeros que solidariamente se preocuparon por su rehabilitación, así como con todas las personas y organizaciones que generosamente contribuyeron para los gastos médicos y de hospitalización.
